Having a strong work ethic instilled in her by her parents, Michele Roberts, MSN, RN, has used it to create a very successful life for herself and her family. She was also taught the value of an education and was encouraged to obtain undergraduate and graduate degrees in her field, to which she is extremely grateful as well.

As the vice-president of patient care services at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton (LVH-H), Roberts oversees the clinical operations for a 150-bed acute care hospital, including the emergency room, medical care units, critical care units, family newborn center, surgical services, rehab unit and respiratory department. She works closely with both the LVH-H president and system chief nursing officer to ensure patient care delivery models and standards of nursing practice are consistent with current professional standards, and with the mission, vision and values of the organization. Her areas of focus include budgets, advancement of clinical division services, and addressing the continuum of care.

She also facilitates the development of strategies to promote recruitment, retention and recognition of excellence of nursing within division; ensures the planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical programs and services; and creates an environment that promotes efficient and safe delivery of quality healthcare.

Roberts holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) from Trenton State College and a Master of Science Nurse (MSN) from Drexel University. She began as a staff nurse in a mental health facility and left for work in the operating room, where she worked for many years, first as a staff nurse, then transitioning into progressive leadership positions – charge nurse, manager and director.

After working at LVH-H as the director of surgical services for three years, she became the administrator of nursing services and served in that role for two years, until 2017 when she accepted her current position.

Fortunate to have had many wonderful mentors throughout her career, she is grateful to Theresa Cope, director of surgical services, retired, and Kim Jordan, senior vice president, Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer, Lehigh Valley Health Network. “Both women are phenomenal leaders, whose mentorship helped develop me into the leader I am today,” she acknowledges.

Roberts take time to breath and as a nurse is especially thankful for good health in her life.

Proud to be part of a wonderful family support system, she is very grateful to have the unwavering support of her parents, Mike and Diane Querubin; her husband, Nathan Roberts, and children, Natalia and Alex.

Roberts is a board member for Partners in Education. She received the team awards for 2021 LVHN Gulden award for efficiency and innovation, and the 2021 LVHN Patient Experience Achievement award.

“I work with an outstanding team of colleagues at LVH-H, who have gone above and beyond in these unprecedented times to care for our patients and I am very proud,” she added.
