Attorney Cathy O’Donnell believes that working to help other people is such a privilege and a great part of the success she has enjoyed in her life.
“When our clients come to us, they need help. Working hard to make sure that each client receives the help they need, that is success,” she said.
An attorney and business manager for she and her husband’s practice, O’Donnell Law Office, she believes it is an honor and privilege to work with so many people in the area of estate planning and administration. She also manages business operations and provides client and employee support for the office.
She received a bachelor degree in business and economics, her law degree and her MBA all from the University of Pittsburgh.
She served as an associate attorney at Dilworth Paxson currently Eliott Greenleaf Dean, Scranton, and served as a district justice in 2001 in Wilkes-Barre.
Her numerous honors include being recognized by Best Lawyers; received the Wilkes-Barre Law & Library President’s award; named Pennsylvania Super Lawyer and ALM Top Rated Estate and Trust Lawyer; and also received the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Rating and Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers. When she and her husband, Neil, met in law school, it was their dream to practice law together. She began her career in estate law in Philadelphia and the couple decided to make their home in Wilkes Barre. While her husband started and grew the personal injury practice helping those injured, O’Donnell worked in Scranton and then was appointed as a District Justice in Wilkes Barre. It was then she was able to join her husband in practice with estate planning and administration clients. She notes how fortunate she has been to work with her husband for the last 20 years.
Her parents and her husband’s parents have been inspirational role models for her.
“Their commitment to their families, their faith, their communities and their careers have always been my example,” she said.
Her faith and family have always been the mainstay in her life, and enjoys the greater success of working together in their profession and community.
Her husband has been her everything for over 35 years. The couple has two wonderful children, Neil Philip, and Renata, who are also attorneys in New York.
O’Donnell currently serves as the president of the Wilkes Barre Law & Library Association (Luzerne County Bar Association); is a member of the board of trustees for Dress for Success Luzerne County, the United Way of Wyoming Valley and Junior Leadership Wilkes Barre. She was appointed to two three-year terms as District III Hearing committee member serving the Disciplinary Board of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
